5 Vaastu tips to ease your home-buying process

Vaastu Shastra is an Indian science of architecture, which has been guiding the construction and designing of properties in India for around 5,000 years now. Vaastu has its origins in Sanskrit, where 'Vas' means 'to live' and hence Vaastu Shastra is the science that deals with the construction of a place or site where one would live. This traditional science deals with simple laws of the universe, and its principles are drafted based on positions and combinations of all the five elements of nature. With time, Vaastu has also evolved. It is an ingrown science of architecture which is now making its way in curriculums of modern institutes of technology and architecture. There are also many institutes that now offer post-graduate diploma degrees and courses fully dedicated to the studies of Vaastu Shastra.

As Vaastu plays a pivotal role in our country's past, homebuyers in India consider it a key parameter in the assessment of property or site, and also consult professional Vaastu experts to ensure its compliance. But there are easy and quick ways to know if the property you are thinking to buy, follows the guidelines of Vaastu or not. And you can do it without professional help. We have curated top 5 Vaastu tips for you to keep in mind before buying a property. Let’s take a quick look.

Pre-Construction

In our culture, performing a Bhoomi Poojan is considered to be an essential step in the home buying process. It is a way to pay respect to the Mother Earth and request her permission for digging the land and starting any activity. Bhoomi Poojan provides an auspicious feel to the project and indicates growth and prosperity in the future proceedings.

Main Entrance

According to the Vaastu Shastra, the main entrance of your house is not just an entry point for the family but the energy as well. So, the east is considered as the preferred entrance as the sun rises in the east, bringing positive energy into the house. Other preferred directions are north or north-east as it ushers health, wealth and prosperity.

Kitchen Location

Kitchen is the source of energy and the place where all the five elements of nature (earth, water, fire, wood and metal) meet, making it an integral part of the household. The lord of fire (Agni dev) is said to dominate the south-east direction making it the ideal location for the kitchen in the house. Another preferred location for the kitchen is north-west, in case you are unable to have your kitchen in the first preferred location. But in both directions, the construction should be done in a way that the person faces east while cooking.

Master-Bedroom

A bedroom is the section of a house where you rest, sleep and enjoy your private time. It’s a place where you put yourself at ease and thereby demand a balanced flow of energy. According to Vaastu Shastra, the south-west is the perfect direction for the master bedroom and if the house is a multi-storied apartment, then the top floor is recommended for the master bedroom. The bed must be positioned in a way that the head lies in the south/ west and the legs are in the north/ east direction.

Toilet & Bathroom

According to Vaastu Shastra, the best direction of the toilet/bathroom is in the south-east or north-west side. The toilet seat should be positioned in a way that a user is not facing either the east or west directions.

We hope that the tips mentioned above will make your home-buying process a little less tedious.
